President Ilham Aliyev Participated in the Opening of an Electric Bus Depot in Nakhchivan
On August 11, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva participated in the opening of an Electric Bus Depot in Nakhchivan city.
The 60 BYD electric buses designated for Nakhchivan city were locally assembled in Azerbaijan at the Azerbaijan Energy Automotive Factory (AEAF) plant located in the Sumgait Industrial Park. Each bus is 8.7 metres long and has a capacity of 53 passengers.
As part of the project, charging equipment has been installed, while the depot infrastructure required to service the buses has also been upgraded. The bus depot, covering an area of approximately three hectares, has been equipped with the necessary infrastructure. This includes technical inspection and repair stations, an electric charging station with an automated accounting system, and a washing facility capable of washing 15 buses per hour. The depot will operate on a two-shift basis and is expected to employ a total of 222 people, including 200 drivers and 22 administrative staff. Drivers will receive a monthly salary of more than AZN 1,000. Technical maintenance and support for the buses at the depot will be provided by Electrify Azerbaijan.
With the implementation of the project, up to 4.5 million passengers per year will be able to benefit from high-quality service across nine routes in Nakhchivan city. The transition of Nakhchivan’s public transport system to fully electric buses marks another important step in the development of a more sustainable, modern and environmentally friendly transport infrastructure in Azerbaijan.
It is worth noting that AEAF and Electrify Azerbaijan operate as part of SARDA Group. The development of electric mobility and sustainable transport solutions has been one of the Group’s key areas of focus in recent years. Projects implemented in this area support SARDA Group’s efforts to contribute to the development of green energy and more sustainable transport infrastructure in the country.
